Unzeitig Construction Company is a locally owned family business incorporated in 1989. Its roots run back to 1972 when Iowa Native, Dave Unzeitig, served as co-owner of Larson & Unzeitig after working for Loomis Brothers Construction for several years.
Unzeitig Construction has been the general contractor of choice for commercial, industrial, and institutional buildings over the last 40 years. Examples of Unzeitig’s excellence stand in Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, and surrounding communities. What sets us apart?
Unzeitig Construction, as a general contractor, manages all aspects of the construction process and has the ability to provide turnkey installations. We employ carpenters, laborers, and construction engineers. All of our field personnel are union craftsmen with the training and experience necessary for quality workmanship. In the design and development phases, our engineers provide cost and scheduling information from an architect’s schematic. Our engineers are also known for making valuable improvement suggestions.
Safety is Job One with Unzeitig Construction. The safety of our employees, subcontractors, and associates are the top priority. All of our Superintendents have completed the 30 Hour OSHA coursework training for construction workers. All field employees have completed the 10 hour OSHA coursework training for construction workers. They are then given time to review and test on our Company Safety Policy. All existing employees receive weekly tool box jobsite safety talks, to remind employees of unique and specific challenges at each individual jobsite. Our Experience Modification Rating (EMR) and Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) scores for the last 3 years are: EMR of 0.84 and TRIR of 0.00. These indicators measure our companies safety performance based on past incidents or conditions.

Over the past 40 years, Unzeitig has built a reputation for quality, craftsmanship, service, and value. Whether a building is masonry, metal, cast-in-place concrete, tilt-up concrete, or wood frame, Unzeitig has built it. When time, budgetary considerations, or some other factor is critical to our client; it also becomes critical to Unzeitig.
